A fabulous taxidermy mount of an anthropomorphic European hare commonly referred to as "Mr. Hare" or a Hunting Hare. The hare is standing on its hind legs, wearing a small green hat & backpack while holding a miniature hunting rifle. This style evolved during the mid-to-late 19th century when anthropomorphic taxidermy became a major trend across Europe. The hunter hare is a classic folklore motif representing a "world turned upside down" or a paradox. Rather than being the prey, the herbivorous hare takes up arms, turning the tables on the human hunter or predators. The piece is in very good vintage condition.
